Day 12: Mass and Change Lab

IMG_1484For day 11, students completed the “Mass and Change” lab. During the lab, students measured the before and after masses for various physical and chemical changes including dissolving copper (II) sulfate and placing aluminum foil in copper (II) chloride. The purpose of the lab is to establish The Law of Conservation of Mass; the mass of a system does not change unless particles enter or leave the system. We will whiteboard the data tomorrow and represent each of the experiments with particle models to derive this definition.
