Day 96: S’more Stoichiometry

For Day 96, we started off Unit 8 with a little kitchen chemistry. Since the first time my students lit a Bunsen Burner, all they have wanted to do is roast marshmallows over them. Today they finally got their chance! Of course, s’mores do come with a price. I had students complete a s’mores stoichiometry challenge in groups where they figured out how many boxes of graham crackers and bars of chocolate they would need to make enough s’mores to use up the whole bag of marshmallows. Then, they had to determine what the limiting reactant would be if they had 100 g of each s’more ingredient and how many complete s’mores could be made. This was a fun and delicious lead in to stoichiometry and BCA tables.
